Cyber Florida Requests Proposals for Collaborative Seed Award and Capacity Building Award Programs
October 11, 2018 ⋅ Tampa, FL: Cyber Florida is pleased to request proposals for the 2019 Collaborative Seed Award Program and 2019 Capacity Building Program. Each program will award up to $750,000 to initiatives spearheaded by State University System of Florida (SUS) faculty members, for a total investment of $1.5 million in cybersecurity research and workforce development outreach programs.
The Collaborative Seed Award Program promotes research innovation and productivity in cybersecurity by funding research teams with investigators from two or more different SUS institutions for projects that align with Cyber Florida strategic priorities and have strong potential to attract external funding. Proposed projects are eligible for awards up to $75,000 each. To date, Cyber Florida has invested $2.35 million in 44 research projects involving 65 faculty members from across the SUS. SUS faculty members interested in submitting proposals should visit the program webpage at cyberflorida.org/seed. The deadline for proposal submission is November 20, 2018.
The Capacity Building Program has historically supported workforce development by enhancing SUS institutions’ ability to educate cybersecurity students through equipment purchase, facility expansion, curriculum development, and outreach programs. For 2019, we have retooled the program to focus on mitigating the cybersecurity workforce shortage by funding outreach and engagement programs for K–12 students as well as groups that are underrepresented in the field, such as women and minorities. Building awareness and inspiring these groups are fundamental steps toward addressing the overwhelming shortage of cybersecurity professionals in Florida, the nation, and the world. Proposed projects are eligible for awards up to $75,000 each, and interested faculty members should visit the Capacity Building Program webpage at cyberflorida.org/capacity to learn more. The deadline for proposal submission is November 20, 2018.
